Since 2025, every online slot at a UK-licensed casino has a hard stake cap: £5 per spin if you’re 25 or over, £2 per spin if you’re 18–24. What it means in practice
For most players: very little. Industry data consistently showed the overwhelming majority of slot spins were already below £2. If you typically stake 20p–£1, nothing changes.
For high-stakes players: a hard ceiling. There is no VIP exemption, no verification level that unlocks higher stakes at a licensed site. £5 (or £2) is the maximum, full stop.
For session pace: with a 2.5-second minimum spin and no autoplay, a maximum-speed session is 24 spins per minute. At the £5 cap, the theoretical maximum stake-through is £7,200/hour — sounds enormous, but it’s a fraction of what pre-2021 turbo autoplay allowed.
The honest trade-off: offshore sites
Searches for casinos “without limits” have grown since the caps arrived, so let’s address it directly. Unlicensed offshore sites do offer uncapped stakes, turbo spins and autoplay. What you give up by playing there:
- Fund protection — no requirement to segregate player balances; if the operator folds, your balance goes with it
- Dispute resolution — no IBAS/eCOGRA; a confiscated withdrawal is simply gone
- Fairness auditing — no UKGC-mandated RTP certification (what RTP means)

- Legal standing — gambling debts and disputes with unlicensed operators have no meaningful enforcement path
